A recent report from one of the leading IT research firm Gartner shows a continuous improvement in the shares of Samsung and Android Smartphone’s. This year too they tend to dominate the Smartphone market. On the other hand, Nokia’s Smartphone market share fell in the first quarter of the year.
Gartner’s figures showed that Nokia’s share of the mobile phone market dropped 4.9 percent over the three month period mainly due to a steep decline in feature phone sales, despite that the firm manages to shift 5.1 million Lumia devices during the quarter.
The Finish Phone Maker Company- Nokia’s position in the Smartphone market dropped to 10th place in the first quarter of 2013, from No. 8 in the fourth quarter of 2012. Gartner credited this steep decline to a drop off in feature phone sales, but added that Nokia will continue to struggle in the Smartphone market.
According to the market research firm, Samsung devices accounted for 30.8 percent of the Smartphone market in the first quarter, a 3.2 percent increase from its share in the same period last year. On the other hand, sales of feature phones contracted 21.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013. However, in the Smartphone operating system (OS) market, Android continued to increase its lead, with nearly 50 percent more Android Smartphone’s in the market than a year ago.
