Whilst it has long been rumoured that the next generation iPhone will go by the name iPhone 5S, a report recently released by Japanese website, Mac Otakara (one of the few credible sources of Apple related news), has confirmed that this will be the case. Mac Otakara has also confirmed that the new low cost iPhone will go by the name iPhone 5C.
This report has also confirmed some of the predictions that were made by KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, earlier this year. He predicted that the iPhone 5S would be powered by an A7 processor, that the camera will feature a smart flash, and that the phone will feature a fingerprint reader underneath the Home button for added security.
Kuo has also recently reported that the iPhone 5S’ Home button will be made out of sapphire and will slightly convex in comparison with the current one. He says that Apple is using sapphire because it is resistant to scratches and it will be able to best protect the biometric sensor that is used for detecting fingerprints. This is, however, still rumour at the moment.
In June, Mac Otakara reported that there is a possibility the new iPhone 5S will also be offered in a gold alongside the traditional white and black. They also revealed that the low cost iPhone 5C will feature a hybrid casing of fibreglass and plastic, which will make the phone available in different colours. It has also been speculated that the C in the name stands for ‘colour’.
It has been reported that Apple is expected to launch this next generation iPhone in September (an unnamed source has incited rumours that the launch date is September 10), but this has yet to be confirmed.
