Press release details and a promo video for Sony’s QX100 and QX10 smartphone-compatible lens attachments were accidentally leaked online by the company, sending many in the technology realm into a frenzy. Both the innovative models use Wi-Fi connectivity to instantly transform a connected smartphone into a powerful photographic tool. The QX100 and QX10 are able to shoot high-quality images and full HD videos that rival premium compact cameras.
The new cameras, both featuring a distinctive lens-style shape, use the latest version of Sony’s PlayMemories mobile application, which enables them to connect wirelessly to a smartphone. They offer many of the same functions that a traditional camera would. Once photographs or videos are taken, they are saved to the phone and the camera, and they can be shared instantly via social media or through other popular mobile applications.
QX100
This camera features a high-quality 1.0inch, 2.2 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, which allows for detailed images in all lighting conditions. It features a wide-aperture Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens with 3.6x optical zoom and a powerful BIONZ image processor. It possesses several shooting modes, including: Program Auto, Aperture Priority, Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto.
QX10
This camera features a powerful 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and a versatile 10x optical zoom Sony G Lens. It is specifically designed for bringing distant subjects closer without sacrificing on image quality or resolution. It features built-in Optical SteadyShot to combat camera shake. There are several shooting modes, including: Program Auto, Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto.
Both the QX100 and the QX10 can be attached to a connected smartphone using a mechanically adjusted adaptor, can be held separately in the hand or can be mounted to a tripod. They can also be used as independent cameras if desired; they feature a shutter release, memory card slot and rechargeable battery. It is believed that both ultra-portable cameras will be made available later this month – the QX100 at $500 and the QX10 at $250.
