Huawei And Telstra Launch The Fastest 4G Phone In Australia – The Ascend P2

Yesterday, Huawei announced that they have teamed up with Telstra in order to create Australia’s fastest (and slimmest) smartphone. Known as the Ascend P2, the phone is powered by the K3V2 CPU that Huawei have developed in-house and is connected to Telstra’s 4G network. Tech lovers around the country are eagerly anticipating its launch at the end of the month.

Some of the specifications that the Ascend P2 is said to feature include:

  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB internal storage
  • 13 mega pixel AF rear camera (with flash)
  • 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera
  • 2350mAh battery
  • Bluetooth 4.0 (LE+EDR)
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 with Huawei Emotion UI
  • Lightweight at 122 grams

Because of its connection to Telstra’s 4G network, the Ascend P2 is capable of offering a theoretical 150Mbps download speed in some markets (including Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane with other markets to follow). Huawei is also the only company offering a Cat 4 device in Australia at the moment, so the Ascend P2 really does take the title of fastest smartphone.

Head of Marketing for Huawei in Australia, Mark Treadwell, said “Huawei has always had the ambition of making cutting-edge technology accessible to everyone.” The Director of Device Management for Telstra, Andrew Volard, followed this up by saying that “the Ascend P2 is a great phone for customers wanting a quality 4G Android device on an affordable plan.”

The Ascend P2 will be available to Australian customers on July 30, when it can be purchased in-store. Whilst it is possible to pre-order the smartphone online, neither Telstra nor Huawei has released details on how to do this yet. The device will be available for $0 on the $60 Every Day ConnectTM plan and will also be available for $504 as an outright purchase.
