Samsung unveiled its first Galaxy S during the CTIA mobile trade show in the U.S. in 2010, followed by the Galaxy SII at the MWC fair in Spain in 2011 and the Galaxy SIII in London last year. The Galaxy S4 is rumored to be powered by Samsung’s new Exynos 5 processor, which will have a whopping eight cores. The company tweeted a rendering of the new chip, which is also rumored to power the new Galaxy Note 3 phone/tablet. According to sources speaking to Taiwanese industry rumor site DigiTimes, the S4 will include a 5in Full HD display with an impressive 1920×1080 resolution, following a trend starting with rival HTC’s Butterfly handset.

Samsung Electronics’ mobile division chief said that the decision to launch the new smartphone in the U.S. was spurred by demand from mobile networks. ‘We introduced the Galaxy S III in London last year, and this time we changed the venue (to New York) as we were bombarded with requests from U.S. mobile carriers to unveil the Galaxy S IV in the country,’ he said.
